A Call to the Coffee Industry
Civet Free is call to the coffee industry to take a stand against it's dark underbelly: civet coffee. Known as the most expensive coffee in the world, civet coffee is produced through the digestive tract of civets, small nocturnal carnivores found throughout southeast Asia. The fastest growing segment of the coffee market, civet coffee's net industry worth is expected to reach $10.9billion USD by 2030- How? Through the mass capture, caging, and force feeding of civets across southeast Asia.
It's time that the coffee industry called out civet coffee for what it is: cruelty in cup.
Our Civet Free campaign is designed to directly reach those who can make a positive change for civet- coffee drinkers and retailers.
How it works
Civet Free is an awareness and fundraising campaign designed for the coffee industry. The premise is simple: we are asking coffee shops, roasters, and cafes, to display our Civet Free posters and to donate an elective percentage of coffee sales profits on the first Saturday of each month: Civet Saturday. Each poster's striking design includes a QR code to our website where coffee consumers can learn the truth behind the world famous civet coffee, and all funds raised go directly towards our work tackling the civet coffee industry.
Why Get Involved?
Our research has shown that civet coffee is not the unique coffee that the industry claims it to be. In fact, the human digestive system can create coffee with the same structural characteristics as that produced through a civet. Nor is civet coffee the most expensive- we sold one cup of human coffee for more money than any civet coffee has ever sold for. Not only that, but civet coffee is almost always fake- it's either normal coffee labelled as civet coffee, or its caged produced labelled as wild collected. To add to the absurdity, the civet is rarely the animal that is even featured on the packaging. So what is the truth behind civet coffee's lucrative success? False marketing and animal cruelty.
Only when consumers know the truth can they make civet coffee history.
